HEY YOU GUUUUYS! Imagine that in Sloth's voice...but mine too...so like super sexy Sloth. Got it? Well, I'm here! I'm not dead! I'm still sewing! All exclamation point worthy sentences right there. I have been so consumed by sewing along from home with Project Run & Play for the first time and I'm so excited to share with you all. I added myself to the link-up auditions, but didn't catch the judges eyes. I want to compete fuh rizzle or at least be placed on the "someday" list, so I did my best to pull creativity out of every place it may dwell. This week is Pattern Remix week. We were given a free pattern download link and told to make it our own. The pattern is the Oliver + S Popover dress. It looks like this:
And here's my Crystal-fied Ginger Dimples look. I call it "The Flapper-iffic Retro Remix":
I'm going to be annoying now and tell you how much I love my own work. I don't care if you judge me. NOPE! Judge away. It's like American Idol and I just got Simon's vote through! Pa-POW! I'm just really happy with it, that's all. Right when I looked at this dress, the shape of it screamed "FLAPPER!"; it was just missing a few details. I started by adding layers but wanted to modernize it with the scalloped hem. I also did away with the tie straps in favor of back button ties. My initial thought was to add a zipper and make the ties sewn in place, but the name of the dress was "Popover" so I really thought that it need to still be able to pop over her head. I wanted to remix it, but not completely change it. Basically it went from "Monica" to "Monique" instead of "Monica" to like Josephine"
As with all vintage styles, accessories are key. The Slouchy Cardigan by Heidi and Finn came out right before or after the themes were announced, so it was fresh on my mind when the decision had to be made. It was seriously a perfect choice to use with my stretch lace.
The hat pattern was purchased from HERE on Etsy and I modified it slightly. The pattern only comes in one size, so I had to make it larger and I added that purty little flower because it was the perfect color.
Anyway, that's my Remix and I hope you like it!! I hope the judges REALLY like it. Well, I hope you REALLY like it too, but...well...you know.
Right now because I'm so dorky...I'm gonna take you to the talkies!
I decided to edit this post to add these pics. These weren't my official blog pics, but she modeled it so well this day...ignore the ugly background, please.
Now, go make your own remix, Y'all!
